| Description: |
Introducing an innovative solution for individuals facing biomechanical challenges in independent footwear fastening. Our easy-to-fasten footwear is meticulously designed, catering to those with difficulties bending and securing their shoes. Inspired by the growth patterns of mushrooms, this transdisciplinary project merges Nature, biology, design, and technology. The footwear's soft robotic fastening mimics mushroom structure patterns, eliminating the need for external pumps seen in traditional soft robotics. The secure locking mechanism, influenced by compliant mechanisms, undergoes diverse hands-on prototypes for individualized comfort. Crafted through the cutting-edge Rapid Liquid Printing Technology pioneered at MIT Media Lab, this adaptive footwear ensures a unique fit for each user. Envisioned as a secondary skin, the footwear seamlessly integrates into daily life, resembling a living organism in both form and function. |
